Turkey: First Kurdish Separatist Party Formed

From Stratfor

A group calling itself The Free Kurdistan Party has submitted paperwork to the Turkish Department of Domestic Affairs to begin the process of becoming a recognized political party, World Bulletin reported Nov. 17. The party's main objective will be to secure an independent Kurdish state, although how much support it has among Turkey's Kurdish community remains unclear. It could become more popular if Ankara's reconciliation talks continue to stall or break down. Ankara has fought an on-and-off Kurdish insurgency led by the Kurdistan Workers' Party for the past several decades, and the government's cautious outreach to Kurdish factions is showing signs of heightened stress due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
